Remembrance Tour Ypres 2018

Remembrance Day Tour 2018

Saturday 10th
Meet in Dover and sail to Calais. Lunch in Calais, then travel up to Ypres to stay in the New Hotel Regina.

Sunday 11th
Commemorations in Ypres and the Special Last Post at 11.00am at the Menin Gate. Lunch in Nieuwkerke followed by a special 1918 battlefield tour, following the route of the final Battle of Ypres.
Tank Memorial Ypres Salient Inauguration of the Tank Corps Garden of Remembrance, Belgium (see separate photographic section).
Drinks and dinner for our special Remembrance Day Dinner in Les Halles with our special guests including Emma Brown, the international Mezzp-Soprano, who will be singing a number of WWI songs for us.

Monday 12th
Drive through northern France and the Mons sector where the final battlefield line was drawn on 11th November 1918 when the Armistice came into force.

Tuesday 13th
Visit Amerongen Castle and Huis Doorn, where Kaiser Wilhelm II lived following the end of the First World War, initially with the Bentinck family before he purchased his own home in Doorn where he died in 1941 and lies in his mausoleum in the grounds. Since our last visit other parts of Huis Doorn has been opened with much more to be seen than before. It remains, in my opinion, one of the best and most fascinating museums in the world.

Wednesday 14th
Battlefield tour culminating in the visit to the site in Compiègne where the Armistice was signed before returning to Calais.
